Sigrid Paul gave birth to her son Torsten Ruhrdanz in 1961. After a complicated birth, Torsten required a lot of medicine. Sigrid would travel to the west because they had better medical treatment. He got really sick and required heart treatment, which was the only way you could be transported to the other side of the wall. They transported him, and she applied numerous times to go and see her son but she was rejected each time. So she snuck over the wall and was put into prison for two years.
